Padre Pio’s Cake

So it all started when my aunty Carmen gave me this mug full of a mixture and told me it was part of a recipe for Padre Pio’s cake. Being a recipe I had to try it out. When I read the steps it sort of reminded me of another cake ( maybe friendship cake where you had to get ingredients from friends, neighbours but am not sure.)

So these are the instructions:

You cannot use a food processor nor put the mixture in the fridge during the whole process.

Day 1: put the mixture given to you in a bowl and add a cup of sugar and a cup of flour. Do not mix. Cover the bowl with foil.

Day 2: mix the mixture 🙂

Days 3 and 4: do nothing ( yes nothing just leave the mixture there)

Day 5: add a cup of milk, one cup sugar and one cup flour ( do not mix!)

Day 6: Mix and cover again

Days 7, 8, 9 : do nothing

Day 10: take from the mixture 3 cups so that you can give them to family or friends.

Then add:

3 eggs, one cup oil, one cup sugar, one cup flour, one tablespoon vanilla, 2 teaspoons baking powder, a pinch of salt and one finely diced apple.

Mix with a wooden spoon and pray. ( you can ask Padre Pio for three wishes)

Put in the oven at 180 degrees celsius for an hour.

Whilst you are ding the cake you have to think of Padre Pio and I also had this short prayer in Maltese

Berikni O Sinjur, Mexxini int u Aghtini il-paci

When you give the mixture to your relatives or friends tell them to start the recipe immediately
